Bio and Credentials

Attorney John H. Appleton has been a practicing attorney in Scranton, Pennsylvania for the past 47 years. A 1968 graduate of the University of Scranton, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves. He received his commission with the ROTC at the University at the time of his graduation. During the time he served in the military he was the Commanding Selective Service System Officer for Eastern Pennsylvania. After graduating from the University he attended Boston College Law School and has practiced business and corporate law in Scranton and was the Managing Partner of the law firm of Nogi, Appleton, Weinberger & Wren.

Attorney Appleton was elected the 20th President of the University of Scranton Alumni Society in 1999. He was a Council person in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania for three terms.

He has been active in many civic and religious organizations over the past decade and has served as president of the Scranton Club and Temple Hesed. He has taught Health Care Law at the University for the past several years.

Attorney Appleton’s parents (Dr. Martin and Professor Anita Appleton) were both alumni of the University, as well as both taught at the University for many years. He and his wife, Donna, have three sons, two of whom and a daughter-in-law are alumni of the University, and Attorney Appleton and his wife have five grandsons.
